ROCK PARK LA DE LA HISTORY

The house below shows the grandeur of the surroundings not all cramped like my writing

Following on from our walk on the previous Monday we also ventured out of our homes on the following THURSDAY to go on another walk this time about ROCK PARK although been their recently sometimes I feel my brain needs a re-cap .

T!he ROCK_FERRY you see today and in the decent past was of a derelict place still qualming about the by-gone days although in recent years new shopping areas and community places have been springing into life, well ROME not built in a day and neither was ROCK _FERRY ,

Plans ,were made in about 1837 to establish a gated community whether this was to keep the undesirables out or to keep the crazy people is undecided but this was a very exciting time not just in Merseyside but the whole country was alive with the excitement of the coming coronation of Queen Victoria at the tender age of 18#

Today it is quite hard to believe but ROCK FERRY used to be the in place to live and were the la-dela gentry used to live!!
Their is genneraly speaking quite a rivallary between Rock -Ferry and its high class neighbour Bebington but infact ROCK_ ferry used to be known as little Bebbington , well just because small in stature obviously big kindly heart

Enough HISORY for now as to much of a good thing can give you something call ed a headache!

the last bank holiday blog!!!

The bank holiday stroll finshed off by the monley steps as you can see you would not want to go up them when under the weather or had to many at the pub next door!!!!

their are various stories why th steps are named after monkeys so take your pick!!!

one reason is by the time you get to the top you are practically on your knees - hence the name monke( if confused go to the zoo and visit the monkey house!!!)

The other explanatioin being a captain lived at the top of the steps and had a monkey!!!so their you go.

This area of tranmere used to be called DONKEY TOwn and used to be the main form of transport for goods and i am not sure maybe people but dont quote me as a bit before my time!!!

BANK holiday3

This house shows the unusual designs and pictures of the house thanks to the man who let me take a closer photo
below shows a beautiful building from in the
distant past a pottery firm was established but silly me was that impressed that i forgot its name, but whats a name between friends!!!

above show a house in pretty good repai but if you look closely and have been to specsavers will notice the boarded up window and if not careful , the situation could get worse problems being the council claims cost alotof money to protect our buildings

I have travelled up and down WHETSTONE lane SO many times i have lost count but I did fail maths dismally but hidden away is some beautiful houses which i would never had known they had existed if it wasn't for the walk today sadly alot of buildings are not protected and left to go to rack and ruin or demolished and turned into flats I sometimes think one day will have to go to a museum to see what an actual house looked like!! but i suppose i am prone to exaggeration (NOT)

WE then progressed to clifton park and looked at the lovely houses their a mixture of modern houses and ones that have survived the past ONE HOUSE used to be used to sell pottery and some of the houses are quite unique luckily some have got preservation orders on them, a very friendly man came out of his home and encouraged us
to take photos which was really nice but i could tell he was proud of his surrounding but when i saw him i was about to do the 100 metres up the hill

BANK HOLIDAY JAUNT 2

Onward and upwards, not far from were W. OWEN Lived used to be a convert school which is now a housing estate the elderly, the names of the roads mostly take a religious aspect of life! IN the past the people in charge would not allow a road to be named after a SAINT as the rivalry between catholics and prosentants was very strong and their is no Catholic CHURCH in TRANMERE!!!! Enough about religion quarrels and on to more interesting matters that of post boxes, the one shown is only 1 of a few left from this ERA on the wirral, I have never taken much notice of post boxes before in life but like allot of things not noticed in life til gone pretty much like the iconic red phone box

where the story belongs

View rock park in a larger map

looking forward going back

the actual entrance of Beechlands rock park I felt like i was not Alice in wonderland but masie actually falling through the rabbit hole WOOOSH! I had not long had my dinner so could not blame my woosy feeling on the fact i had just awoken from peaceful slimber,MAYBE A FULL STOMACHbut i was definatley in a dreamlike stance AND suddenly came to when i heard a voice "meet you later Nat by the gate"
I turned and their it was, a cold shiver ozeezed my way down by back as i turned and looked at the gate, nought spectacular about a gate you may think and no i have not been reading to many NARNIA books, you do not go through the gate and end up in another land, but i knew perhaps i was only one who knew the secrtand knew wer the gate used to leadto a fine housewith superb views (I should have a job on those holiday programmes come and stay in Rock ferry
This was the gate that used to lead Nathaniel Hawthorne's house, all us girls used to dream about Nathaniel and could vizualize being married to him the famous authour who lived here amongst us herein ROck FERRY, who would believe it
and all we hve got to remember him by not a satue or a plaque but a Gate!!!!!!

OH !here we are at the gateway to the home ,and janey was sprinting up it like a hare and i ambled up like the tortoise!!i had barely enogh time to notice the garden although had a lot of well kept flowers and an unbelievable amount of butterfloes

BANK HOLIDAY JAUNT1

I must admit i don't think much of bank holidays as I dont work it really just means more people about which to me can be considered abit of a pain.I got an E-mail from elaine letting me know about a variety of walks which were going on this week, although i have lived in BIRKENHEAD it is always amazing what you can find about your area !! so made arrangements with DOT and we were off although as per usual I had the wrong meeting place luckily DOT had her car and before could say "LOUBY LOU we were with the others.
The group seemed friendly and quickly geled together, and ROY who was taking us on our history tour was certainly not someone who fell asleep in history!!!!
A few members went onlooking at different things they could find to eat or scavenging which i must admit sounds like fun but maybe next time as cant be in two places at once.
I have always known that WILFRED OWEN the war poet live in Birkenhead for a short while but this was the first time i had ever seen his home ( SHAME on Me)
Ithink one of the most moving aspects OF Wilfred OWENS life was he was killed a week before armitice dayand apparently the telegrapgh telling of his deathcame to his MOther at a church service celebrating the end of the war!!!!!
